Choosing The Right Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaner

Getting the right automatic pool cleaner:

There are basically three types of pool cleaners:

• Suction Side Cleaners
• Pressure Side Cleaners
• Robotic Pool Cleaners

Different pool types and plumbing configurations call for different pool cleaners. You need the right cleaner for your type of pool.

Suction Side Cleaners: Use On In-ground or Above-ground Pools

These pool cleaners use a hose that is attached to the suction side of your pool's plumbing; this is the side where water is “sucked” out and usually refers to the skimmer which is where the hose is attached. The other end of the hose houses the cleaner which can be either manually or automatically moved around the pool, vacuuming up debris that is sent to the strainer basket or onward to the filter.

Pressure Side Cleaners: Use For In-Ground Pools Only

These swimming pool cleaners are attached to the pressure side (return) of the pool's circulation system.  The water is pumped back to the pool under pressure. The debris is collected in a bag rather than in the strainer basket and filter.

Robotic Cleaners:  Use For All Types Of Pools

These pool cleaners operate on low-voltage current and are completely self-contained. There are generally two motors on these types of cleaners: one the draws debris to the unit's collection filter, and another that is used to move the unit around the swimming pool.
